My mom passed away last August. I’m going to call her “Mary Wilson Smith”, for this purpose. She received a stimulus check, with this printed on the “pay to the order of” line: “Mary Wilson Smith, Deceased”. As though Deceased was her last name? Did someone forget to drain the swamp?
I suggested to my sister (who received the check) that we send that money to a food bank or other charity; that if we sent it back it would end up at Goldmann Sachs, or some other less-worthwhile recipient. However, the paperwork that came with it threatened legal action if we did that, so we sent it back. No surprise now to find out that the feds aren’t going to try to bother to get any of it back.

Sad!
