An impossible practical joke. Queen Victoria died in 1901, and Prince Albert pipe tobacco wasn’t made by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco until 1907.

This is a strip about Queen Victoria living in the modern age with other long dead characters … and you’re worried about the logic of it?

Mad Magazine had a an article about truly dangerous stunts for Evel Kneivel … like selling Israeli war bonds at a PLO meeting, or heckling Frank Sinatra at a meeting of the Italian anti-defamation league …(back when old Blue Eyes was still alive)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that way.
Ever since “Mad” started accepting advertising money, it’s been going downhill fast.
They should realize they’re supposed to be closer to “The Muppet Show” than “National Lampoon.”
The old style “Mad” successfully skewered everything it went after without descending into smut.

She hangs out with QE1, Oliver Cromwell, George III and Anne Boylen and you’re worried about when they started making pipe tobacco?!?!?

MANY years ago I was at San Diego ComicCon during one of Mad’s anniversaries. I attended a panel with Sergio and one of writers. They decided to do a ‘guess the sketch’ contest using an overhead projector. One of them was a circle, he started drawing something else, and someone blurted out “a dime a dozen” and he looked up kind of disgusted and threw away the sheet of acetate. Then he started a complex drawing, paused, and started laughing. He’s forgotten to put down another sheet of acetate and was drawing directly on the glass with a permanent marker.

Personally, I would have gone to Home Depot, bought a piece of window glass, removed the glass from the projector, then broken the window glass and given the convention $100.

Prank calls are never a good idea! I wish this strip could show a young Queen Victoria!
