    Unfortunately, I’m old enough to remember the Payola scandals of the late 50’s and early 60’s where disc jockeys were paid by the record companies to push certain records and stars.

    In those days, you could be huge in NYC and people in Phillie wouldn’t know who you were..

    But every local DJ was a chance to break out and get heard by an A&R man and make it big.

    These days you only get on the air at all if some record label has decided you’re a hit.

    They don’t bribe DJs – they own them.

    I go through life not knowing a thing about these tween phenoms, certainly never hearing them, only seeing second-hand references to them pretty late in the game. I can’t imagine what I’m doing right…
