Restraining orders are no defense against the determined abuser. Big dogs and guns work, tho. And a few self defense courses wouldn’t hurt….

Yes, domestic abuse is no laughing matter. I just want to point out that men can also be victims of domestic abuse.

If social issues are important to you take the time to read Terry Pratchett’s latest novel “Dodger”. It’s set in Victorian England, strongly based on real people from the era and loosely based on Charles Dickens’ characters. I think it’s a must read for any TNAQV.

Watch on Adult Swim, “Moral Oral” and “Before Oral” for some antidote to the sweetness of “Davey & Goliath.”

OK, one out of ten who would be at home with the people bashing Tom Batiuk on gocomics.com that Funky Winkerbean isn’t funny when it takes on social issues.

50 Shades is a piece of shit which glorifies abusive, stalkerish, and utterly creepy behavior. It is read primarily by safe, bland, suburban moms and stupid teenagers who have never experienced that kind of thing in RL and think it’s “romantic.” The BDSM crowd loathe it, because it also gives them a bad rep and glorifies genuinely dangerous behavior. And anyone who has ever experienced abuse loathes it because it sells itself as “romantic” to stupid teenagers who don’t know better yet.

“Losing” someone like Grey is not far worse than anything, it would be the thing that saved the protagonist’s life and sanity, if she were written anything at all like a real human being.
