It was the alien, the one with the arms and the floppy ears, it looked like Jar Jar Binks. Nuff to turn me off the movie with out even seeing it.

I remember the John Carter books from when I was a kid. Not seen the film yet but I should imagine it’s over the top with CGI effects for the sake of it.

Jeez, the movie just came out! Is it that bad?
Meantime, I noticed that “Princess of Mars” was on TV this weekend, another John Carter movie, starring Traci Lords (and if you don’t know her history, this is not the place where I’ll tell you).

cost about $250 million to make. Brought in about $30 mill. Was beat out by the Lorax (in its 2nd week) by about $4 million.

Ow. Ow ow ow. And the sad thing is, Avatar was just a re-imagining of John Carter of Mars, but I hear it made the money.

The Lorax had so many commercial tie-ins they could have shown it for free.

Well I have given up on “Movie Critics” and their reviews ever since gene Shalit of The Today Show roasted this little Science Fiction Movie back in 1977.
He called it a total flop, and said that no one should waste their money going to see this film called “Star Wars”!
OOPS!

The real irony is that the Best Picture Oscar was won by a silent, B&W movie that had no CG’s at all.

John Carter gets a 49% on the Tomatometer. See rottentomatoes.com for more info.

“The Artist” sucked more than “John Carter” which shows critics don’t know what they’re watching or they’re taking payola..

I love good animated cartoons, but refused my daughter’s offer to go to Avatar (characters are ugly!) I still plan to see Tangled even tho I missed it at Imax; I’ll get the 3D DVD.

weak box office for the opening of john carter, and most critics are comparing it to ishtar, which makes today’s strip impressive, since pab must have submitted it weeks ago!

I take it you’re not into old movies.

“John Carter” made $70 mil overseas. I think the jury is still on on whether nor not it’s a flop.

@ Stephen Gilberg: yes I am, ever since I took film arts in college… Big fan of Harold Lloyd, Lon ChaneySr.and Buster Keaton’s work to name a few. And of course, Chaplin.
