That would be King George III, (grandpa) if I’m not mistaken. He’s not quite all together.

The historical George III suffered bouts of madness. Today it’s believed he had porphyria, likely brought on by arsenic exposure.

I would expect Louis XVI to say ’Allo and George III to say ’Ello, but based on past strips, it seems to be Granddad.

    Durn-it, I was hoping for a round of French-bashing.

Ooooohhh…and if the high-octaine lemonade fell into the hands of the French??? Pschearer, that would have been a fun story line.

As I understand it, porphyria is hereditary, and probably came in with the Stuarts.

The substantial Wikipedia article on porphyria calls it “a group of inherited or acquired disorders”. The following discussion on George III seems to discredit the claim that he had it and that it was hereditary. I think I’ll wait until they get their stories straight. Meantime, on with TNAOQV!!

The Brits WERE going to call it, ‘The Madness of George III’, but their marketeers knew that most of the box office revenue would come from the US, where people wouldn’t go, since they’d missed ‘George I’ and ‘George II.’

So they re-named it, ‘The Madness of King George,’ and it went down a bomb.
