Keep hating on Thomas Kinkade. My wife loves hers; given to her by a son.

    Keep hating on Thomas Kinkade…

What Thomas Kinkade does, he does well, for those that like it. He has shown so — over and over again — using his formula — with little subtlety. Just because an artist — of any genre — sells well, does not make him a great artist. If you compared his talent versus the art world against a comparable of the music world, that might be Raffi or the Bieber. His light technique and career growth alone pales in comparison to that of Titian and Rembrandt.

But among the main knocks against Kinkade outside his talent, were his braggadocio, embarassing personal actions, and his business practices.

Not to argue, but his work bring happiness and joy to millions of people. Seems like that should be one of the primary purposes of art.

No, it should not. Art is truth.

I can’t disparage those who like Kinkade (or Beiber); the first owners of my present house had a collection of Kinkade.

That I’d use the frame and canvas before keeping one is my “regard” for him as an artist (just as some would probably reuse mine). I HAVE painted over some of my own works which I found less than satisfactory.

Needless to say, I re-did any attempts at decorating in this house (their “accent walls” were colors I considered drab and ugly, as well as the little valence over kitchen sink. My own may be to fem for some (floral) but it matches the fabric I used for the seat cushions on my stools and benches.

Meanwhile, back on topic, another possibility: NFL replacement official (e.g. 2012, Green Bay vs Seattle: “Fail Mary” pass).
