   Interferring with the “balance of nature” should be a no-no for Tarzan, but he’s always on a “mission” of sorts.

   Tarzan had no business interfering with the natural order of things. Those hyenas were hunting for food, and just because he didn’t like them, it doesn’t make them evil or cowardly. As a matter of fact, hyenas are nocturnal hunters and are not in any way cowardly. Sure, they are ugly, and they smell bad because they are carrion eaters, but they are not inherently bad any more than a lion or a wolf.
   

   
   One thing I have always gotten a kick out of is seeing just how ignorant and prejudiced that Burroughs was. His early books show a remarkable lack of knowledge about African animals and a marked hatred toward the African natives. In later books he corrected a lot of his mistakes about nature, even to the point of identifying his great apes as Orangs, but he never did stop denigrating the Africans.

    Tarzan is a hypocrite. He kills animals often and yet he calls hyenas bloodthirsty. They have to live, too. They can’t choose to be vegetarian like people can. I don’t think I like him.

    All the Hyena comment have me laughing like a hy…., never mind.
    Katman, you mentioned going on safari yesterday. Very cool. I am not much of a hunter, but to tag along would be a great experience.
    I did get to see Bald Eagles swoop down and catch fish in Adak, Alaska. Never can get enough of that.
    They said the Ruskies would come in and raid the seal population. They would shoot the Bald Eagles just to PO the Americans.
