Thar’s why Don Rickles calls people hockey pucks !
Ever notice that a lot of players don’t wear mouth pieces ?
Even football players value their teeth.

Incoming hockey pucks, like bullets, always have the right of way.

I had been concerned that Bill Hinds could keep Tank fresh and biting after the passing of Jeff Millar. I am concerned no longer!

Mouth pieces don’t protect well against fast-moving pucks. A lot of players don’t wear mouth pieces because a puck can take out a row of teeth instead of a single one when a mouth piece is used.

At 5’7", Gump Worsley‘s face was often below the crossbar, yet he didn’t wear a mask until the last 6 of his 931 NHL games. Though I don’t remember him having a beard, and certainly not a helmet, the strip’s image made me think of him.

The maskless Gumper did get hurt, but that was more because of an errant stick, which if done today would have been reshown for a week on information starved media today

many goalies held out wearing masks because of losing sight of the puck, which is why many hockey players do not wear them today

Don’t write about hockey if you don’t understand it.

Now you know why I’m not posting. The only thing I understand about hockey is that they fight a lot.

If you understand hockey, you understand WHY they fight. It is NOT mindless violence.

No, it’s merely visceral reaction. That’s why Rodney Dangerfield complained he went to a fight one night and a hockey game broke out.
