Sports is Tank McNamara’s beat, his livelihood. A former professional football player who’s now a TV sportscaster, Tank McNamara reports on the breaking sports stories of the day: the hot players and angry coaches, the pending lawsuits and drawn-out strikes, the constant roar and ever-increasing hype that make organized sports one of the world’s most lucrative businesses.

I was sooo over the NHL that I’d forgotten all about the little weasel.

Since Armstrong has been all over the news, I expect him to be #1. However, since most Americans only check out the Tour de France when we have a contender, I’d still give it to Bettman for endangering (again) an entire sport.

yep Gary the idiot Bettman should be #1

…and having an east v.east / west v. west schedule.
The only time there’ll be a meeting of the two is Stanley Cup games.
There’s a sports host here that calls him Beavis Buttman, but I think that’s insulting to Beavis and Butthead.

Instead of a plaque, the runner up for the Tank McNamara Sports Jerk of the Year receives a nice bumper sticker that says “RUNNER UP”.

I feel that Bettman should have been #1 by a large margin.
Armstrong’s transgressions happened in previous years.

No doubt, Lance is doing a victory lap. “I’m number one!”

I fondly remember the year in which the SJOY was an MLB player who spit on an umpire. Tank presented the award in a yellow rain slicker, including a hood.

Yeah I picked Bettman too, ironic my Kings finally win the Stanley Cup and he keeps them from having a solid title defense. As for the Armstrong case it should be the US Anit Doping Ass-ocation as SJOY, for hounding a guy. Guity, yes but it was still a witch hunt. He would have confessed, after all Pete Rose did.

Speaking of Sports Jerks, I can’t wait for Roger, the Artless Dodger, Goodell make his grand entrance on Sunday. I’m sure the folks in New Orleans will be most welcoming !

Which is interesting, because, as numerous articles have mentioned in the run-up to SB 47, it was Roger Goodell who insisted the Saints remain in New Orleans and who pulled all the strings and pushed all the buttons to get the Superdome repaired before the Saints got too comfortable in San Antonio — and before San Antonio could mount a concerted effort to keep the Saints in town. How quickly they forget.

Roger knew that San Antonio, wonderful town as it is would suck as a football market, full time.
Texas may be a big state but two mediocre football teams are enough, while a rebuilding of the Superdome and the emergence of a reinvigorated New Orleans Saints team was good PR and good business for the NFL.
The animosity between Owner Tom Benson, GM Mickey Loomis , Coach Sean Payton and Commissioner Goodell and henchmen has been growing for years.
The fans, myself included, were on the receiving end of this feud. We were the true losers in this unfortunate affair.
There is enough blame to go around but I still haven’t forgotten Goodell’s shameless, shoddy and cavalier handling of the NFL Players lock out.
The least Bill can do is send him a bumper sticker…

So who was more vile and deserving of the SJOY awared than Bettman? Sure Armstrong tainted his sport. But then, back when he was racing – weren’t they all those cyclists back then tainted?
.
Though I guess I should be pleased that my choice for SJOY for 2011 & 2012 did make it to 2nd place. Tim Thomas and Gary Bettman. …. Sad that both are in hockey.
