With Strange Brew, Deering -- famous for his biting humor and political savvy as chief editorial cartoonist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette -- has an outlet for his creative sense of humor and quirky view of life.
"Being an editorial cartoonist today, you have to be tuned-in to pop culture as well as politics -- but there are some limits to what you can do," Deering says "In Strange Brew, everything’s fair game. I get to cut loose and draw anything."

Get direct deposit! You need to do that by next March anyway. See http://www.ssa.gov/deposit/ for details.

If he’s relying on Social Security checks, how lucky was he to begin with?

@StoicLion
Lucky he was able to GET SS. According to our politicians, (on BOTH sides) the system is going broke. They could fix it, but they won’t.

No pot of gold in that mailbox, if that’s all he gets to live on. Unless General Mills sends him royalty checks.

@Rockngolfer
My birthday was in October so last year I called SS about signing up in April. They told me that they would pay 2318/ month starting 5/1 – OR – they could backdate it to 11/1/2011 and pay me LESS (but in a lump sum).
_
“So what’s the difference?” the answer was “well, IF we backdate it you will get a lump sum of $11390 and future payments of 2278..”
_
So I did a quick calculation in my head and said “Well, that means that I have to collect for about 21 years before I break even… I’ll take the lump sum” he said “I thought you would”

I just thought it was a funny coincidence that as I am reading this page, I am watching the movie Swimming With Sharks. I kid you not.

With so much blank space I’m guessing he went to check the spelling, got distracted, and forgot to add the rest before submitting it. But I still thought it was funny.
