With one early teenager and a preteen in the house, I can sympathize. They both think the parents are beneath them…..

Holly, that is your Mother you are talking about—she’ll never be beneath you even when she is gone and you are older than she is now. She is the best friend you’ll ever have to treat her better. Treat Alix better, also. When your Mother is retired, you’ll want her living with Alix not you.

I remember another trip to South Africa where she hooked up with a handsome dude and then came home with him. The date on the panels says 2014 but this arc is much older. Am I right?

“…you’ll want her living with Alix not you.”

You know, that sounds exactly like what Miss Fine said to Brighton about his Dad (Mr. Maxwell Sheffield) retiring and living with his big sister (Margaret) in the pilot of ‘The Nanny’.

I gave both my daughters this speech the night before their thirteenth birthday. “Tomorrow is your birthday and you will officially become a brain-dead teenager. This will be our last sensible conversation for the next 7 years. Remember I love you and look forward to being able to communicate with you once again when you turn twenty.” Their reply? “Geez Mom, you are sooooo funny.” ;-)

NIght do you have any kids yet? That is pretty much a common attitude among brothers and sister. So take it in stride when you come across it.

Yes, some people get you and some don’t. It’s really nice to find one who does!

Please, stop the preaching. Even if she could hear you it would fall on deaf ears.

Nope. Evie’s going to work on another Habitat for Humanity project in South America. New thread, same idea.

Great speech! I bet the comment you got was accompanied by the classic eye-roll!
