With one early teenager and a preteen in the house, I can sympathize. They both think the parents are beneath them…..

Holly, that is your Mother you are talking about—she’ll never be beneath you even when she is gone and you are older than she is now. She is the best friend you’ll ever have to treat her better. Treat Alix better, also. When your Mother is retired, you’ll want her living with Alix not you.

I remember another trip to South Africa where she hooked up with a handsome dude and then came home with him. The date on the panels says 2014 but this arc is much older. Am I right?

I gave both my daughters this speech the night before their thirteenth birthday. “Tomorrow is your birthday and you will officially become a brain-dead teenager. This will be our last sensible conversation for the next 7 years. Remember I love you and look forward to being able to communicate with you once again when you turn twenty.” Their reply? “Geez Mom, you are sooooo funny.” ;-)

Yes, some people get you and some don’t. It’s really nice to find one who does!

In spite of the sibling rivalry when we were young, we are now living together in his 80s and my mid 70s.
