You gotta learn to cook sooner than later, Holly, if you want to be independent later in life.

My mom would have loved for me to offer. She always had to drag me into that room.

I didn’t like to cook then, I didn’t like to cook when I had kids at home, I don’t like to cook now; I doubt that I’ll like to cook in the future.

I know how to cook, and I cook well. I simply don’t like to cook.

Holly will be foraging for nuts and berries in the kitchen while Mom will be cooking.

Is Holly’s “recipe” stocking up on small bags of Planters and eating those?

    Eh, groundnuts ARE proteinacious!

My daughter used to have the same reaction when I offered to take her to the laundromat so she could do the laundry she was nagging for me to do more often.

I like the look on Holly’s face in the last panel. I get some of the same reaction from my almost 13 year old when I suggest that she start shouldering some of her own responsibilities.
Ah, teenagehood! How to gain the privileges of being considered the adult without having to assume the responsibilities? “Ain’t gonna happen.”
