Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Very good point, Val.

For pete’s sake, let her shop. To let any red blooded woman
go to PARIS, and she can’t buy anything? C’mon. This is supposed to be enjoyable! Joanie is not a wild spending
clothes horse; she’s just a housewife and mother. Let her
buy something. She will never forget it. :-)

Conversely – a full bag and window shopping!

Anything to declare?

Might be cheaper to shop in Paris than pay the airline fee for the overweight bag…

Too much baggage can ruin a trip.

I went to Paris in ‘84. Took one suitcase – light, easy to carry. On the way home, however, I had to sit on the suitcase to close it, and it weighed 78 pounds. Fortunately airlines weren’t charging overweight fees back then.

@A SAINT
But then what about the trip back?

Yes: the commenters can’t agree on how much Joan should pack!

@gkid
Absolutely! She’s going to have to bring back souvenirs for everyone as it is, she certainly ought to buy a few things for herself. It would be so frustrating to not be able to buy anything. If that’s the case I’d postpone the trip til I had enough money to buy a few things!

How difficult is it to ship packages from Paris to Oregon? I mean, would it be easier to ship things, even extra clothes, rather than haul them in a suitcase?

@annamargaret1866
That makes too much sense…

remember in Accidental Tourist, the woman shopped at the Flea Market? Bonus!
