Val: The general rule for packing is...take half as many clothes and twice as much money.
Joan: So you can shop when you get there?
Val: So you can LIFT the bag!! Holy CREPES!
For pete’s sake, let her shop. To let any red blooded womango to PARIS, and she can’t buy anything? C’mon. This is supposed to be enjoyable! Joanie is not a wild spendingclothes horse; she’s just a housewife and mother. Let herbuy something. She will never forget it. :-)
I went to Paris in ‘84. Took one suitcase – light, easy to carry. On the way home, however, I had to sit on the suitcase to close it, and it weighed 78 pounds. Fortunately airlines weren’t charging overweight fees back then.
How difficult is it to ship packages from Paris to Oregon? I mean, would it be easier to ship things, even extra clothes, rather than haul them in a suitcase?
Who is she trying to impress? She’s going with her husband, for crying out loud. It’s not as though she is trying to entice him (she can still look nice, though!). I thought this trip was about enjoying the city and art. Take something nice that mixes and matches. I picture poor Wally lugging around a suitcase that’s too heavy to carry. It would serve her right if Wally threw his back out lugging the thing around and they spent the vacation in a hospital.
Paris is a chick thing. Been once, thought it was just an overpriced tourist trap, have no ambition to go back again. Woody Allen notwithstanding, guys only go there to make their ladies happy.
Husband went to India for 10 days (work) and had to take Canadian souvenirs over with him for 7 people and had to pack light because of the stuff he was bringing back! I wanted fabric then there were the kids (4) & their dude/dudette and wives to shop for. Then work related stuff. We bought a larger suitcase (we usually only use hand luggage) and did very well. The suitcase was 49lbs going there and I think a little less coming home.

Might be cheaper to shop in Paris than pay the airline fee for the overweight bag…

I like to buy scarves and shawels for my friends …easy to pack and useful too….no pottery or statuettes that end up in the garage sale!!!
