Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

That’s ACTUALLY a pretty good idea. You’d be amazed at what you realize you don’t need.

Think she will go shopping there nomatter what – so better bring as little as possible. Last time I was out I brought home a second suitcase bought just so I didn´t have to pay too much for the one (which I couldn´t close).

Why on earth is she taking books? Download something to read on the plane—or better yet, sleep so you’re ready to sightsee when you get there.

Buy the clothes there, then ship them home.

I went to Paris, ready to go shopping, yet I didn’t find anything that I really wanted to buy.

I often mail back stuff that won’t fit in the suitcase – works great. I’d have to check the postal rates from France, though.

I went to England for two weeks with 12 pieces of carefully chosen mix and match clothing, plus undies, which all fit into one suitcase. I carried an empty train case for souvenires.

Books to read on the plane, at the airport, and at night when Wally crashes!
