In panel two, it looks like a rather wide fence.

France has become very anti-semitic lately … hope Wally and Joan don’t run into any problems there.

I think Joan would have been disappointed if Val didn’t make the comment in the last panel!
And I enjoyed Paris when i was stationed in Germany – but we did like the country side much better! But Paris in a cartoon world… would be wonderful! =)

At least the fence posts would have some width (they just aren’t shown clearly). My neighbor fences are 4" block and I still seldom put anything on top that way.

4×4s for posts, okay, got that. But 1×4s for uprights with maybe 2×4s for top rails? No way I’d rest a mug on something less than 3 inches wide! :-)

I remember an interview on the radio or TV years ago with someone who’d written a book on how to get French people to be nice to you – big points were start in French (& let them switch you to English if their English is better than your French) and start off with “J’ai un probleme” – they love to solve problems. In any case, I had a great time my last trip to Paris, but my French then (though not good) was a lot better than it is now, 17 years later!

Just being American will annoy the French.

Is my memory playing tricks? I seem to recall an arc several years ago where Val and Joan went to Europe — I thought it was Paris, but I could be wrong — but Val got sick and had to stay in the hotel room, and Joan painted the town red on her own. This was probably before she and Wally got married — or am I confusing Stone Soup with a completely different comic strip?
