   Why is pork bad? It creates jobs in places where they might not otherwise be. West Virginia and Alaska would be like Haiti and Ethiopia if not for pork.

   I agree with you 100% on this. Unfortunately, those with “substance” don’t have the financial backing of either of our 2 major political parties. Neither Democrats nor Republicans WANT substance in their candidates, just someone who will promise to vote exactly as they say, regardless of personal beliefs, constituency needs, or common sense.

   $3 billion(?) to GE for jet engines the military didn’t want would keep people employed but to no benefit to the electorate in general.

   $398(?) million for a bridge that benefits only 50 people. There is no industry on the island to justify such an expenditure and the ferry runs every 30 minutes (every 15 minutes in summer).

   Leave the coal companies alone and WV will be just fine. Leave oil alone and Alaska will be fine. We don’t need pork when we have $16 trillion in debt now with more to come.

    The ferry runs every 15 minutes? Just when do you think a bridge makes sense? When the ferries are nose to tail and can be walked across?

    50 people cannot support a ferry every 15 minutes, somebody is not being forthright, these number are incorrect somewhere.

    Some genius put the local airport on the island, passengers have to ferry to the adjacent city.

    I’d rather pay for the bridge than the war in Iraq or Afghanistan.

    Send Federal aid to New York and New Jersey, and bring the troops home. They can help rebuild the Sandy damaged areas. Then let’s find other projects here in America that puts Americans to work.

    If Republicans want to set a fiscal example they should stop adding pork to bills. Otherwise they are just hypocrites, my spending good, your spending bad.
