…back in the day when truancy from school was actually punishable, by both the school AND the parents…

Hope you didn’t have any plans of sitting down any time soon, Skippy.

“Sure, Mike”? I thought that was his Dad. Surely he wasn’t allowed to call his Father by his first name. Mike looks a little old to be his brother. But then, without birth control, accidents were more prevalent. Soooo, is Mike is Father?

B-b-b-but Bart Simpson always calls his dad Homer & Arlo Guthrie always refers to his dad as Woody. Of course my mom never tolerated us referring to our dad by his 1st name. BTW has any1 ever actually seen a truant officer?

In grade school I always went home for lunch. When I was in eighth grade I conceived the idea of “taking the afternoon off.” I knew that adults did that at work, and it seemed like a good idea. I did it a few times before the nuns called my father and let him know. My explanation was so completely up-front and innocent (I really did believe in the principle) that I didn’t get in trouble for it, I was just told to knock it off. My father didn’t laugh in front of me, but I suspect he had a good one in private.

You made a wrong decision, Skippy, OK? But it’s not the end of the world. You’ll get over this: time heals all wounds, including sore bottoms.

In the last panel Skippy calls him “pop”. Perhaps “Sure, Mike” was some sort of long forgotten lingo.
