There is a PhotoShop “clone” called GIMP. It’s FREE, so try it out. It’s an amazing program.

    Did I mention, it’s FREE???

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) comes from Source Forge and they do not allow any kind (and I mean any kind) of malicious software on their site. It is part of the Open Software movement and is a most reputable program for anyone wanting powerful and free photo image editing software.

But you are correct about a lot of miscellaneous “free” software being little more than a vehicle for spreading adware, malware, or viruses.

GIMP in free as in freedom – not freeware. The source code is freely available, and you could look at it out of curiosity and even compile it yourself.

But if you use a Windows binary, you are, however, trusting the person who compiled it for you not to patch in some “features”.

Some distributors of open source programs do charge for Windows binaries (i.e. the service of compiling it for Windows), but you could still compile it yourself after a (perhaps frustrating) learning curve.

Also it’s been around for years, works with all OSs. If you have an older version of Windows, you can find an older, compatible version of GIMP even if Photoshop won’t work.

Actually, “Shoe” is completely digital . . . I draw into Photoshop using a Wacom Intuos Graphics Tablet. Been drawing that way for 16 years. Color is roughed in using Colorize, then finished off with blends and touch up in Photoshop.
