Whether that was his real reason for going into politics or not, he’s got a valid point.

Yes and no. if it’s a person whom the media likes, they pretty much ignore his/her background blemishes.
    .
If it’s a person the media dislikes, today they simply lie. Used to be that they did half-truth and innuendo.
    .
I thought Belfry was supposed to be based on Teddy Kennedy? For at least 10 years before Teddy died, he could “do no wrong” and thus the media wouldn’t be interested in “digging up dirt.” One wonders if most papers would even bring up Chappaquidick if it happened today. Now, when he was young and the media was more honest than now, they reported the good and the bad stuff about him.

The media sure is digging up every bit of crap about Romney! Too bad they didn’t do that for our current POTUS before he was elected.

According to the Official Shoe Comic strip page on this character:
    .
“Senator Batson D. Belfry, beltway blowhard, was originally a take-off of former Speaker of the House, Tip O’Neil. He has evolved over the years and, these days, typifies what outside-the-beltway Americans consider to be the quintessential politician: You can’t trust him as far as you can throw him, and he’s so big, you can’t throw him very far.”

    .
This matches my memory of interviews with the late Jeff MacNelly back in the early days of the strip.

(continuation): so today, Belfry might best be seen as an amalgam of Harry Reid and John Boehner.

Obviously you weren’t watching Fox News while the previous election cycle was going on.
And you’re STILL asking for his birth certificate.

That is precisely why Newt did not make it through the primaries (by far).

Guard, I don’t like Obama any more than you do, but your tirades do more harm than good in getting him out of office. You come across as an ill informed nut job, no better than the nut jobs on the right. Get off the conspiracy theories and discuss what he has actually accomplished which is pretty much nothing.

That sums it up concisely ! Intelligent debate on the REAL issues is lost to the lunatic fringe ( on both sides ). BTW didn’t you mean “the nut jobs on the left” since Guard Sgt is far right of Ghengis Khan ?

Foi est une passion et un enthousiasme: c’est une condition de magnificence intellectuelle auquel nous devons nous accrocher à un trésor, et de ne pas la gaspiller dans la petite pièce de monnaie des mots vides, ou à l’exact et argument insensé.

Are you denying that President Obama’s mother was an American Citizen at the time of his birth?

If not, then he IS a natural born American Citizen, just as thoroughly as John McCain is.

You do realize that McCain was born in Panama, don’t you? Not in the Canal Zone, not in an American Military base, just IN Panama, a foreign country.

That’s your choice. A natural born American Citizen, born in the United States, or a natural born American Citizen NOT born in the United States.

And if there WAS an Usurper, it would have been G.W.Bush, when the Supreme Court APPOINTED him, instead of waiting for the results of the vote, which WOULD HAVE shown him to be the winner. But the votes don’t matter, the Supreme Court MADE A DECISION!

Senator Belfry is a spitting image of Thomas Tip O’Neill. He just needs a stogie to go with him. The only difference this time is that he’s not three sheets to the wind…
