Legitimate grievances by college athletes are not being heard. Should they be protected (via insurance) from career-ending injuries incurred during training or on the field of play? Should their scholarship be guaranteed if they are injured under the same conditions? Should the demands on their free time be limited? Those are some of the concerns the players have voiced, and were punished for daring to utter.
    .
To righties, there are no legitimate reasons for unions to exist at all.

Hollywood has a long history of chewing up and spitting out young performers (especially female performers). And it sounds like the NCAA has been treating players just as badly. So unions do have a place, just not much of one.

Football will be gone in ten years or so and so will the path from poverty so many have been able to get from it. No sweat off my brow, I don’t watch it. But I’d love to see the list of people that became successes because of it. (Of course, if it continues, the health care of players should be covered)

There’s too much money to be made in collegiate sports. As long as it’s profitable, there will be college football.

Jasse- guess you don’t follow the news much. With more and more retired players discussing their health issues, people will probably follow Obama’s lead in not allowing his imaginary son to play. Which I can understand. I played in high school and thank God my tiny self was not crippled for life. Not worth it for a game. … Unlike boxing, you need enough kids to field a team. I suspect they will fade away.

“Jasse- guess you don’t follow the news much.”

I don’t bother to read the sports section of the paper, no.

Jasse – I NEVER read the sports page, these stories broke national news… Way to show your depth.

Trusted- i do not have an ideology. I go case by case and fact by fact. You may notice my posts that agree with the right because of your own bias, but I am a bleeding-heart conservative. I use my brain and heart. … Taking care of someone that was hurt while acting in your behalf is not socialism….. And, to go way off topic, I believe in socialism for certain things, but not as a system. Take oil, for example, I would rather see our Army Corps of Engineers extracting oil on federal property and utilizing it for the common good…. I can name several similar things that I endorse that would make the right-wing’s nuts shrivel…. The reason you see so many of my conservative thoughts is because there are so many left-wing propagandists drawing toons and trolling these pages. I belong to no political party and have not for over 30 years.

You’re falsely assuming I bothered to read a news article about sports outside of the sports section.

Well, I don’t follow sports, but I like to be well rounded, so when I see articles of the MANY old football players with brain damage and the president even makes statements about not allowing his imaginary son play, it is worthy of at least skimming that news… I see now why your thoughts and comments are so limited. You only read what you like or are interested…. There is no growth possible when you limit yourself in this manner. I am endlessly curious. Guess that’s why you can’t get your mind around me… I don’t fit any label.
