I work for lawyers, and I see a lot of documents signed by people whose jobs require them to sign a lot of documents. “Legibility” in a signature is rare. “Distinctiveness” is common. For better or for worse, one’s signature is little more than one’s “mark”, something which the signer can reproduce with ease but which a forger can only reproduce with difficulty.
Seeing my own siganture, an outside party could easily make out my first and last initial, but everything else is squiggles. And I’ve never had any trouble having it accepted by a signature scanner…
