Anything written by Jane Austen (and that ilk) or produced by Merchant-Ivory. When everyone knew what a lady’s chemise was, but one did not discuss it in public in polite society.

Excellent description. You could also include Downton Abbey on your list.

Panel 5 would be Pasquale returning at dusk and saying, “It ain’t a fit night out for man nor beast.” [cue throwing snow]

As George Burns is supposed to have said, “The key to success in this business is sincerity. Once you can fake that, you’ve got it made!”

True, but sometimes wading through the morass of mis/information and advertising is a pain. Some folks prefer to deal with a live, albeit computer-based, person, like on these message boards and postings. The lost art of conversation, as it were.
