…and so Moby Guppy escapes – the hunt will continue another day.

…but, Dang! That pothole in their street is getting big! Must’ve been SOME rainstorm!

This shows what a great retriever Rover is…but too bad Red didn’t catch a fish instead of the log…but better than an old boot Red …

Andy Griffith sings the theme song to his 1960s TV show “The Fishing Hole” even mentions a hound dog scratching at his fleas!

Yes, the theme to the Andy Griffith Show had lyrics:

Well, now, take down your fishing pole
And meet me at the fishin’ hole
We may not get a bite all day
    But don’t you rush away
What a great place to rest your bones
And mighty fine for skippin’ stones
You’ll feel fresh as a lemonade
    A-settin’ in the shade
Whether it’s hot, whether it’s cool
Oh, what a spot for whistlin’ like a fool
What a fine day to take a stroll
And wander by the fishing hole
    I can’t think of a better way
To pass the time of day
    (instrumental & whistling)
We’ll have no need to call the roll
When we get to the fishin’ hole
It will be you, me and ol’ dog Trey
    To do the time away
If we don’t hook a perch or bass
We’ll cool our toes in dewy grass
Or else pull up a weed to chaw
    And maybe sit and jaw
    Hangin’ around, takin’ our ease
Watchin’ that hound a-scratchin’ at his fleas
Come on, take your fishing pole
And meet me at the fishing hole
    I can’t think of a better way
To pass the time of day!

It’s probably time to watch Star Trek after securing the Captain’s log.

Hmm, this strip takes place long before the superlines (fishing lines) came out, pretty good size haul with out breaking the ole monofiliment fishing line. It could be done though! I remember haulin in some huge stick fishes with monofiliment.

Living by the Susquehanna River in the 60’s & 70’s. our fishing poles were strong tree sticks, homemade sinkers, hooks (sometimes bent safety pins) and whatever nightcrawlers we could dig up. Lots of fun memories!
