Many newspapers censured this cartoon. They were unaware that the Oliphant penguin was being satirized. Breathed apparently thought Oliphant was taking himself a bit too seriously. “Reagan sucks!” was an actual quote from an Oliphant cartoon. On a day when Oliphant couldn’t think of anything bitingly satirical for his penguin to say, he threw in a gratuitous insult to Reagan.
Hmmm. I wonder which political cartoonist has a penguin character willing to cross picket lines? Is it the same one who insulted Berkeley Breathed when he won his Pulitzer?
Montserrat is a perfectly good alternative to other geometric san-serif fonts (like the overused Avant Garde). But using it in end credits is particularly offensive. And italics would only make the choice worse. Enough to make a graphic designer mad.
