Yet it’s the Republican Party that has firmly seized the role of naysayer. Literally every ambitious proposal aimed at building toward the future is shot down and dismissed. Everything from high-speed rail to energy reform.

It would never have been possible to build the Hoover Dam in this political climate.

True, with the environmentalists uproar that would have occurred, most major projects would be doomed.

and it is difficult to honestly paint only the republicans as naysayers when the Dems shut down the government by refusing to even talk about giving the same consideration to ordinary taxpayers as was given to unions and other corporations when it comes to Obamacare exemptions.

of course, if you are a blind ideologue, it is probably easy.

Too true. If it doesn’t give money back to the one percent, then Republicans want nothing for it. And it was a Democrat who started us towards the moon.

Yah, thanks for reminding us that the Democrats in Congress only make minimum wage and receive no donations over 50 cents from orphan undocumented children.

What ambitious project? You mean like the job killing obama care? Name a project that obama has tried to pass to help the economy that the Republicans have shot down? You are right though about the Hoover Dam not being built today. democrat “enviromentalist” would have gone to court and blocked it. Just as they did with the Auburn and several other dams in California. How’s that working for you California?

It would help if all their projects weren’t stupid liberal crap.

True, it was a democrat. One who wanted to cut capitol gains, give business tax breaks to spur economic growth and push to lower not raise income tax. Hated commuinist. If there were democrats today that actually followed Kennedy’s actions and not just used his name to try to get votes I might still be a member of that party. Oh by the way, he was a member of the 1%.

When we started the Apollo program, the top tax rate was 91%. When we landed on the moon it was 70%.

You get what you pay for.

It always amazes me how Republicans hate Obamacare when the whole thing was basically a Republican idea that emanated from a prestigious Republican think tank. Only because Obama had the nerve to push it through you hate it. And oh yeah as for ambitious projects, try infrastructure, something that Republicans also use to favor, that was until this President agreed with it, now its not just no, but hell no on that and everything else.

I love how that fact that now that obamacare has proven to be a disastor all the libs are saying “it was a Republican idea”. Just because one Republican came up with a similar plan for a very small state you claim obamacare is a Republican plan? Besides unlike democrats just because a person from our party came up with an idea we are not going to blindly follow. I have no problem saying so when a Republican comes up with a stupid idea. Name a Republican who voted for obamacare? Even if Reagan was the originator of the idea this means we looked at it and said no. We read it and said no. No Republican said “you have to pass the bill to see what is in it”. Also what Romney passed is very differn’t in actual practice. To be honest I have no idea how it worked out or if the people like it as I do not live in that state but I do know that it didn’t cause millions of people to loose their existing health care and it did not force business to change their work force from full time to part time because they could not affored the cost.

Yes I can imagine that, thats why I am glad it works out just the oppisate when those ideas are put in place. Night, the big difference between you and I is that I know that everything I have or do not have is becasue of me. I know I am resposbile for my life and if I had wanted more I should (and could) have worked for it. You on the other hand seem to blame your failings on the mythical 1%.

The comic strip has been pretty good this week, though the comments have been pretty depressing.
    .
This strip is at its best when it’s just Carmen and Winslow, and that is what Scott has given us this week. Thank you Scott!
    .
I like how yesterday, Winslow worried about (unspecified) leaders who might take them over the cliff.
    .
Today’s strip features them falling through space. Or is it, did they go over the cliff?
    .
I see that no one has commented on the continuity of the strip. Just the usual bickering between Republicans and Democrats.
    .
What was so beautiful about (what I perceived as) the premise of Prickly City: No matter how different Carmen and Winslow are, they agree not only to talk to each other, they even decide to be FRIENDS!
    .
I wish I saw that in these comment pages. I don’t.
    .
Someone fired back at me last week saying I need to tell that to the folks in Washington. Agreed.
    .
But whether we like it or not, the folks in Washington really do reflect us. And as long as liberals and conservatives, Republicans and Democrats, insist in seeing each other, not as the “loyal opposition,” but “enemies of mankind,” well…
    .
It kind of looks like we get what we deserve from Washington…

Get your facts straight and also read carefully what was said. What part of the prestigious Republican think tank did you not understand? And just a small State? Delusional much? The only real failure of Obamacare was that ridiculous roll out which everyone admits was a disaster. The fact that the program is actually working in the States that actually created the State exchanges just drives Republicans crazy and you refuse to even admit that its working. Perfect, no but what is? It would be a lot better if it included another Republican idea that you used to like and advocate, individual mandates. But again anything you used to favor, if this President agrees with it you have to oppose often using the most crazy reasons. What a bunch of hypocrites
