Can you hear me now?

My wife doesn’t let me get that close so even if we did wear those things it would never happen.

both of you don’t have to have hearing aids. I don’t wear one but when I hugged my friend who does hers went off.

This is why I wear earplugs a lot now.

If my dad misplaces his hearing aids, I can usually find them by homing in on the sound they make.

The feedback drowns out the tinnitus.

This used to happen to me whenever I hugged my (now-deceased) mother-in-law.

Newer hearing aids are better at stopping feedback, but none are perfect. The worse the hearing, the more likely there is to be feedback (think of turning up the gain too high on any amplifier). Sadly, the worse the hearing the less likely the wearer is to hear the feedback.

Trust an AUDIOLOGIST to fit a hearing aid, for they usually operate out of their own private practices or with an ENT. They can help with feedback problems because they have the training and experience. A place that offers miracles, buy one get one free, the first 25 people to respond to the ad, or a discount store or warehouse, usually hires hearing aid technicians who know more about hard selling than how the human ear works.

Happily hearing isn’t one of my myriad problems. At least not yet.
