Since my wife started watching “Dr. Oz” I’m not
allowed to eat anything that has corn syrup in it.

It’s a good thing to avoid. Most sodas have it. I get Coke made with real sugar for a special treat. Not very often. I gave up the diet ones in favor of seltzer water. I love the carbonation!

Corn syrup, despite being called high-fructose, has a lot of straight glucose in it. Goes right into the system without digestion. Drink a can of soda with 40 grams of sugar and about 20 will be in your bloodstream in less than a minute. Might be OK if the stuff wasn’t in thousands of individual products. I don’t understand the idea of putting corn syrup in foods that are not supposed to be sweet like tomato sauce, but it’s commonplace.
One of my doctors made some interesting comments about Dr. Oz.

Watch out for orange juice from concentrate. The label may say “100% pure Orange Juice from concentrate”, but they don’t have to tell you what’s in the concentrate. Most of the time there’s corn syrup in it.

I know for a fact in the State of Florida if you add anything to orange juice or orange juice from concentrate you have to state it on the label and it can not say 100% from concentrate unless that is all that is in it. I work in the citrus industry and you can not put sucrose in OJ with out stating on the label, then it is not 100%.People that just want to make up stories should have their computer taken away from them. Everything in OJ is checked by USDA including the label.

It’s pretty sad isn’t it? More and more it’s looking like we’ll need to make things from scratch just to avoid the HFCS in so many things. It is NOT good for you!

Actually it would be a wise thing to do; especially if you find some information that you can use, and you don’t have access to a DVR or a VCR!

Dr. Oz sells everything now. He’s also a big celeb. He’s lost a lot of credibility with me.

While that is true, corn syrup is not refined like white sugar we buy at the store. That comes from sugar cane and/or sugar beets. Corn syrup has some corn related ingredients.
