My maternal grandfather lived to be 96. Now THAT is old in my point of view (paternal 78).

@ИOMЯOM – Hope you had as many enjoyable moments with him as I did with my great-grandmother who made it to 103. I learned a lot of American History from her. And a lot about the old way of life. She was one of the original settlers in the Cherokee strip when it was opened to settlement.

Much of it is how you treat yourself. With the exception of the smokers, most of my relatives died in their 80s or 90s. My granddad built a completely new room for his house when he was 70.
.
The boomers are the first generation since 1910 that has a reduced life expectancy than the prior generation (including WWII!). The drugs really do catch up to a person. Early onset dementia, mental illness, cancers, infectious diseases, you name it.
.
Read EMCDDA’s publication “Treatment and Care for Older Drug Users.” It’s grim.
.
Going by the Boomer’s experience, because of the incredible schism in drug use between GenX men and GenX women I would expect that the women will live 10 to 20 years less long than the men on average.

Is Earl jealous ?

Earl sat on the park bench too much. The first “excersise” should be to pack the TV to the trash bin. Then keep moving; walking is best.

I’ve had two uncles ( one still alive ) who played golf well into their nineties. My grandmother on my father’s side lived until 98. My mother retired, finally, at 83 and kept her own house and was very active until almost 90. She used to say: Age is just Mind over Matter. She didn’t mind and it didn’t matter.
She also said age was just a number – and hers was unlisted !

With my mom 87, all I learned how rough she had it growing up repeatly, and how abused she was from her mom.

I would like to live to be 1200, but I’d settle for 600. Now if my body would just stop aging.
