Stunning combination of words and picture.

That’s all I’m prepared to say at this time.

They are probably OK, unless they have been beaten and teased since they were just puppies. They are off of their leashes though, obviously in violation of the law. A good excuse to take them to the pound and put them on euthanasia row.

Now redraw it with two black kids in goodies and see what a spitstorm you unleash.

Some of the sweetest dogs I’ve known were Dobies, rotweilers, Staffordshire terriers (“pit bulls”) and German shepherds, all “noted” as vicious breeds or that bring fear to people. Our shepherd was a much bigger wuss than our black lab for example.

BUT, the real issue is that with dogs, or people, if you show fear, or act stupid, they will detect it, and take advantage of the situation. The best defense is NOT an “offense”, but rational defense, and respect for whom, or what, you may be facing.

I’m a bit stunned by this, too.
But the right-wingers should be thrilled.
Perhaps Mr. Oliphant is transforming into one of them.

“But the right-wingers should be thrilled.

If you take this as referring to profiling of young Black men, it should be compared to/contrasted with his Zimmerman cartoon of just last week.

If you take this as referring to profiling of, say, Arabs at airports, it’s not out of keeping with things he’s done before.

One thing the cartoon is NOT about, though, is dogs…

But yeah, I took one look at this and thought “Many people who usually applaud Oliphant will condemn this one, and many people who usually condemn Oliphant will applaud it.”

But hey, one of the reasons I think Oliphant is the best editorial cartoonist out there is that he’ll speak (draw) what’s on his mind, party lines be damned.

(And again, from a technical standpoint this cartoon is magnificent.)

My former neighbor had a doberman. It was one of the most well behaved dogs I’ve ever seen.

@ReasonsVentriloquist – We all do some profiling and that is what keeps us safe.

If I see a bunch of nuns marching down the street protesting abortion or nuclear war or whatever – I assume (and probably rightly so) that it will continue to be a peaceful protest and I can safely be in the same area going about my business.

If I see a bunch of skinheads in Jackboots, leather and chains marching down the street I assume that they are Less disciplined and figure that is not a safe area to be around. Any number of stimuli can set them off.

People who adopt the uniform of a group garner extra scrutiny from those around them trying to identify their intentions. It’s unfortunate that the hooded sweatshirt is a favorite of thieves and thugs because everyone wearing one now becomes suspect – And I like my hooded sweatshirt when the wind blows.

If a group of individuals started robbing convenience stores and vadalizing parks in habits we would quickly start to distrust nuns.

Now follow those dogs down the street, confront them, demanding obedience, then shoot then when they attack and claim it’s all their fault and you did nothing wrong.

Well, it certainly is wrong to profile dogs. People? Well, I don’t know. I don’t think the issue is a simple black/white one, but I think it is easy to reduce it to either/or in the interest of polarizing people …

There are lots and lots of pure cowards on this page. Oh, you’ll pee on one another to be politically correct. But push comes to shove you’ll run like pansies from a fight. It’s hard to believe the nation that helped win WWII has made such gutless wonders as you folks.

BTW, to all you dog lovers who think your nice little “wolfie” would never bother anybody here is a little warning from you: a woman had her dog attack me while I was minding my own business on a run. I got a tree branch and after the dog was tagged I wanted to beat the ass of the lady. BTW, I have the right to defend myself and the police said so.

I live not far from Detroit. And you’re fools to think that people don’t stalk you. Always have access to firepower.

Most of you are cowards. You’re P.C. In 20 years you’ll be slaves and it could not happen to more deserving people.

So are some scummy people: by themselves, they’re chickensnot and afraid to go up mano a mano, but within a gang, attacking an individual, they’re tough.

So, Mr. Oliphant black male youths are the same as doberman pincers?

    Nope, no race problems here…
