Hi GoComics readers,
Many of you have expressed curiosity and even concern about the comic hiatus for Pat Oliphant's drawings. We wanted to share that Pat is doing well, in good health, but simply on vacation. As soon as when we have an update on the date of his next drawing, we'll share the news here and via social media.
We have wonderful readers. This is an example of the impact that an artist and their work can have on lives and we will continue to value that relationship with you. Thank you.

See Ted Rall, July 30. No matter which side wins, and no matter which side we might help, they will all hate us in the near future.

It certainly seems that way.

There’s a natural tendency to root for the underdog, especially when the overdog is cruel and brutal. Remember that the shah was also cruel and brutal, and for a while there, we were rooting for the ayatollah. Be careful what you wish for.

Back in the Carter years the U.S. didn’t have to go in with weapons or help one side. They used their power and moral standing to bring people to the table and “duke it out” in form of a contract. What has happened? Where has that option gone to? Is it because of Abu-Ghraib, Gitmo, Black Sites? If so the President should apologize EVEN MORE in order to restore that standing that helps to prevent conflicts!

It seems that not going in is what we are doing in Syria. Personally, I think that’s the right decision and that we should have done the same in Libya. These are internal conflicts that they must resolve themselves.

Reminds me of that old Saturday Night Live sketch, “What if Superman had been raised in Nazi Germany?”

@GreggW
I looked up that sketch. Thank you! That was back in 1979 when SNL was really funny. /
I assume this cartoon is a take-off on Captain America. In line with your post, what if every country had an indigenous super hero? Junk food for thought.

Hey, no inane commentaries from Ima(doofus)! Did we get rid of him finally? Good riddance!

@ DC Comics did that with their old “Global Guardians” team of super-heroes. For example, Greece had the Olympian, Japan had The Rising Sun, New Zealand had the Tasmanian Devil, and so forth. I think some of them might even be around these days.
