The GOP will turn this into an attack on Obama, and deep in their hearts will be sad that no one was killed.
As always Party Before Country.

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard–that the GOP would be sad that nobody was killed as if they would be happy that Americans were killed.

Wow, that is a sad bit of stereotyping by Oliphant!

Come on people! Stop ragging. Appreciate this editorial for what it is: it honors the strong, able, vigilant NY police force standing as the first line of defense between the busy NY populace and any lurking sleezeball trying to do harm. This isn’t about profiling. It’s not about politics. It’s simply about honoring those who “Protect and Serve”.
Take the time today to thank a cop or soldier for doing what he/she does so you can go about doing what you do a little safer.

And before any of you jump in again playing the “racial profile” card, let me ask: Just how would YOU depict the criminal element in this editorial? Black? Hispanic? Hirsute? Neo-Nazi? Any face you put on the lurker is going to offend someone. But again I remind you, that isn’t the point of the editorial. Focus on the guy in the middle. And then apologize for being so petty.

The Truth is,The New York Times is not part of the United States;its a SEPARATE COUNTRY, A MONARCHY RULED BY URBAN WITS. Those urban wits are all better than us,more eudcated, more intelligent, and more “sophisticated”in the ways of the world.Meaning, they wear lots of black, and expensive designer suits.(I like Armanit)
Uh,meaning, they real books a lot;and they do not have a tv. They never go out of NY,and they’ve decided that only 2 whole countries exsist; New York,to live in,and Africa,to do charity work in. That’s it.
In fact,I wrote a lot,to New York Socialites, and New York Fashion magazine editors, and I begged them,”hey,my state is super poor, super primative, really badly educated; WE’RE your Africa!!! You can practice being a do-gooder on US. We will not mind at all!!We have tons of homeless, bodyless, broke, poor, starving, choking, and mind-blowing marajuana, oops, and we are all losing our shirts. Yeah. WE ARE AFRICA AND HAITI.
In fact,we have our own “community peace ssong. It goes like this; “We are Su—dan!! /We are the Hai—ti!!! We live in huts, our dogs are mutts, come play with our bay—-bees!! / If you like gruel, you are a fool, cause we eat hotdogs on a stool; / Yes,we are Af-ri-Caaaah!! We’re Hai-teee, too!!!!!!” (deep romantic Sitar playing, and Japanese flat marimba.)
Can you think of anything more romantic, for an Oregonian to do??Besides drying al the hail and snow, and rain off yer gloves, and her nose all the time.

Um Ken… The fact is that there are liberals and Democrats on the airwaves stating that they were disappointed that it was a person from an Islamic group. They hoped or assumed that the bombing was being committed by a homegrown terrorist. So let’s stop assuming the GOP is the bad guy and look at what is actually being said . So who is really putting party before country?
Fact is, we shouldn’t be hoping that anyone is bombing anywhere, but this is the world we live in now.
P.S.- let’s make sure we realize that there is a fine line between common sense and racial profiling. If I see a guy with a bomb it does not matter what he looks like. He has a freaking bomb! I am not going to ignore him just because he looks Muslim or like Timothy McVey. Give me a break.

Yes, the police did a great job finding out who was behind the act of leaving the SUV so quickly and getting him before he left the country. Unfortunately, there are many more like him, and we have to remain on guard.
The administration, DHS, or the Police did not foil this attack. We are lucky the bomb didn’t go off. The only thing that foiled this attack was the fact that this guy was terrible at making bombs. Just like the Xmas day flier who’s underwear started on fire instead of blowing up the plane.

@billdog: There are conflicting reports on who alerted who and how. One report is a muslim immigrant photo vendor first alerted everyone. Don’t be too quick to degenrate the conversation.

Actually, I do believe the point could have been made without the sulking, lurking “criminal element” in the foreground, of any race or make.
The fact that he did specify the “one of those people” du jour added just a bit of an element of the racial profiling charges, but it is still ambiguous as to whether the cop is the racist, or if racial profiling is the obvious solution.
