    “share out”—- what sort of regional, local, colloquial, expression is that? any comical etymologists in the crowd?

    It’s good ol’ English as spoken by us Brits. What do Americans say?

    @Piers Baker:

    Generally, Americans don’t have a term for that, as we don’t share…we just eat all the cookies. :-) But if we WERE to share our biscuits, we’d “dole them out” or possibly “portion them out”. You Brits often have more-polite-sounding terms for things. Your mums raised you properly!

    And anyone out there who feels they need to respond nastily to my comment: Get a life…one with a generous sense of humour please!

    Mr. Baker, we Canadians, the colonials, say, “Usually on Sunday’s we divide the cookies evenly between us.” However, I had no trouble understanding that “share out” means the same thing, whereas, “dole out” doesn’t mean sharing to me.
    But this is a comic strip, and I prefer to laugh at Mr. Butt’s, (whomever’s) eye falling off! lol!

    @Tandembuzz is correct. But in my house, we either “share” or “split” the cookies. We don’t usually add the extra word (“out”).

    Nice trick, Quentin! ;)
