    Danae’s teacher is going to send her to the principals office for this too! Somehow I think the moon was there before the pyramids OR golf!

    This must be why the dark side of the moon has the word Titleist.

    ‘Could be worse. I heard of a planet that was knocked into a black hole in a game of intergalactic billiards.’
    “How dreadful.’
    ‘Only scored eight points.’

    Unfortunately, we really don’t know the origin of the Moon. The two main theories in Astronomy mag over the years were 1. A captured minor planet, and 2. A chunk of rock the size of Mars smacked into Earth, blowing stuff into space and the material coalesced into the Moon.
    .
    Could easily be some other mechanism that caused it. It’s not like we can go into the past and see.

    That explains the holes all over the moon’s surface – dimples for controlling air resistance. That’s why the moon doesn’t slow down and fall back on top of us. Bill O’Reilly would approve.

    I had long heard that the Moon got whacked off the Earth by a cosmic collision, and that the Pacific Basin was the scar left behind. However, in an episode of Cosmos a couple of weeks ago, Neil deGrasse Tyson said it was an agglomeration of asteroids and minor orbital debris formed in much the same way as the Earth.

    Any explanation of its origin should probably account for the fact that it is by far the largest satellite in relation to its primary planet in the Solar System.

    Wow. What a swinging club! ……For Danae, this is just par for the course…….BTW, remember when an astronaut actually did that on the moon?…….Remember when we had a space program? Boy, those were the days…..

    If they were that large it would go further than just orbit.

    @dukedoug

    When you prove a theory, does it cease being a theory and become fact?
    I.E. gravity, speed of light etc.
