But my media isn’t like that. Mine is infallibly correct and the sole representative of perfect intellect in the world, not like religious or other closed-minded folk who are basically just witches.

In “The Electric Horseman”, a corporation wants information from a News Dept, but they won’t give it to them. The CEO tells the frustrated lackee, don’t ask the news department, “ask the advertising department and they’ll talk to the News department”. They get the denied info.

This hits the nail on the head for all news programs. With 24 hours of news; they have to make up news.

fox news really sucks. after the rutgers coach got fired, they say it was wussification of america. and, one fox news guy admitted that he was hit with a belt as a kid, and he turned out “ok.”

When there were only three major networks broadcasting the National news on TV it was much simpler. There was competition between the three which led to some good hard news stories, and if you didn’t like what you heard you could always turn on the radio.

Today with cable and satellite there is more competition and the news channels are more abundant. The major broadcast networks have dumbed down their news coverage to appeal to a smaller and less specialized audience. The nightly news seems to lead with the weather, follow with a hard news story lasting only a minute or two, then fill the remaining half hour with fluff and human interest. They have no other choice.

A news junkie such as myself has no interest in a quick half hour broadcast that’s heavily brushed with saccharine.

I have satellite TV and have many options in channels broadcasting the news. Some are very obscure but noteworthy and informative nonetheless.

(I do watch the NBC Nightly News only because I am familiar with the personalities.)
