Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

faux noise, far “right” and unbalanced. If they were an over the air network instead of cable they’d have lost their license to broadcast long ago.

Today’s show is brought to you by the letters “B” and “S” and the number 7.8…

Amazing they loved the numbers, derived with the exact same methodology, when the rate went up.

the problem is they don’t use the number of people not working

@4my10851cs
But that has always been a problem, it didn’t start with this admin. As the unemployment benefits have been paid out for a longer time in this admin, those people were also counted as unemployed for a longer time.

@Radish
The technical unemployment rate has been computed by the bureau of labour statistics in the exact same way since 1947. It has nothing to do with the number collecting unemployment. It is only loosely connected to the number who are out of work and looking for a job.
To be unemployed, one must not have gotten paid for even one minute of work during the month, and must have submitted an application to some place that is accepting applications.
When times are terrible, many people only get a few hours work and many more can’t find any place to apply. All these are desperate for a job, but are not technically unemployed.
In good times with more jobs than job seekers, school and military leavers take longer to decide between competing models, and so are unemployed but NOT desperate.
So the real number of people who are out of work and desperate is NOT the same as the technical unemployment figures, but those technical figures are all we can accurately measure.

MAD magazine hit it years ago when a character in a story said something like “Numbers don’t really mean anything. Give me enough numbers, and I can prove to you that Rhode Island is bigger then Texas!”

LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Fantasy is so funny!!!!!
More like Oscar is a disgruntled democrat who lives in a garbage can. Doesn’t everyone know that the news broadcasters use a teleprompter and not hold paper in front of them anymore? Just like the one term president who’s sitting in the white house today.
The Count will also have a job as O’s new financial adviser. He can count to 16 billion.

Timing is just a coincidence, it’s just a Chicago thing, move along.

Brilliant cartoon! Mr. Anderson could do a whole series. For example Big Bird sitting on that couch of “Fox and Friends”, crossing and uncrossing her legs in sync with Gretchen Carlson, subtitled “Fair and Balanced". Or Ernie and Bert in a screen-insert, Hannity in the foreground, saying “And here to defend the repeal of ’Don’t ask don’t tell’…”. I could think of a dozened of those easily, pity I can’t draw…

Hmm..Last month the 4 week average for new applications for unemployment was over 377,000.Thats per week.That adds up to over 1,500,000 newly unemployed in Sept.The economy created 114,000 new jobs.At a speech at George Mason University,Obama said that the were losing 800,000 jobs per month when he got in office.Back then there were over 12,000,000 actual unemployed.Today there are 23,000,000.How is it that the unemployment rate droped?The leftwingnuts can’t explain it but somehow anyone that notices these discepancies is stupid.The morning rush hour sure isn’t what it used to be around here and hasn’t been for a couple of years.

I just had this thought: what is it with Republicans and big birds? Remember Dick “Deadeye” Cheney and his little hunting accident, where he peppered his friend, a 78-year old lawyer, across the chess and face because he mistook him for a man-sized quail? Boy, do these people hate birds, except when they are being served by Chick-fil-a :-)

Okay, the entire Republican strategy, for over a year has been, the economy is a disaster because unemployment is marginally over that 8% rate. Now it is only very marginally UNDER 8% and their entire economic argument is blown??? It only shows what a facade the rate, and the argument, is.

Yeah, should have just given them only 6 months unemployment, then they would have been all discouraged workers by now. (and not counted anymore, just like Reagan did in 1984)
