Nancy was created by Ernie Bushmiller in the 1930s. Since 1995, the strip has been drawn and written in Bushmiller's classic style by Guy and Brad Gilchrist. Nancy is famed for its gentle humor and surrealistic sight gags. Nancy's childlike innocence never wavers. She remains a devoted friend to her pal Sluggo, and can be, depending on the situation, a conceited prima donna or a fun-loving, cute and cheeky little girl.

Reminds me of my old Superman comic books. In some Jimmy Olsen, as Superman’s pal, was able to adopt the persona of rubber man and twist his body much as Nancy does here.

Yes, there was a comic strip character named Plastic Man. There were also Elongated Man and Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic 4 who were both capable of stretching their bodies that way. In the late 70’s and early 80’s there was also an African American hero named Super Stretch who could do the same. Super Stretch’s wife was named Micro Woman. She was normal size but could shrink herself by saying I AM MICRO WOMAN! Super Stretch and Micro Woman’s real names were Chris and Christy Cross and they appeared on CBS’ Saturday morning cartoon show Tarzan and the Super 7.

Don’t forget Elastic Woman of the Incredibles. One of the standard metahuman powers.

And during one week of camp where I volunteer every summer, during Superhero Week, the most popular hero around camp was … Duct Tape Man.
All week long, we kept hearing: “Sounds like a job for … Duct Tape Man!” Ha—great times.
