    ok. Democracy is mob rule and feared by our experienced writers and signers of the constitution. They were a lot smarter than we are in that they created a constitutional republic rather than democratic rule. We have a rule of law instead of a rule by a mob that can be turned to nefarious purposes by nefarious entities. By the way Luk you could have had Obama doing the scoot over the constitution. Only in the interest of balance and “fairness” of course.

    The Republican Party is increasingly being seen as the tool of the Koch brothers and their billionaire cronies in the Forbes 400. The way the American Gini Coefficient is moving up to Mexico’s level is well reflected in this cartoon.

    “rule by a mob that can be turned to nefarious purposes by nefarious entities.” What a perfection definition for the tea party. Except that they will never be in a position to rule.

    Therein lies the rub (no pun intended)… the United States is not, never has been, and was not intended to be a Democracy. We were created as a Representative Republic of State Nations (a Federalist System) with a democratic style of voting. Nothing more, nothing less. However, I would like to think that this cartoon is accurate, but would give three cheers to the fact that it represents the necessary truth, not something to be worried about. By the way, your elephant missed a spot.

    @Ken M

    How does that work? How does Nevada gets access to the oceans? How is a person traveling from NY to LA without having to show his passport six times? How is Rhode Island going to defend itself against the Russians? And who is controlling all these nukes, the major of Wasilla, Alaska?

    I don’t know what the founders really wanted and whether they dreamed of the U.S. becoming this powerful. But the last remaining superpower on earth can’t just be “a Republic of State Nations”. Germany was that way before 1870, and look how we took off after we got united. If you guys split the reverse will happen…

    It’s too bad Mike didn’t pass his Civics class, Nowhere in the Constitution is democracy. Founders were afraid we might be that and have mob rule. Course they did know the masses would be so easily fooled by the elected class. Maybe it’s time for a new revolution.
