For those not familiar with this story. The link has links to links of the two videos.

This was a tragedy: ‘New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke on Friday about the “terrible tragedy” that had occurred, briefly delaying a family vacation to Italy due to the situation.’

Welcome to the De Blasio police state, the only “tragedy” in his eyes was his thugs getting caught.

Looks like he was not in any sort of hold at the time he was saying that he could not breath. He was on the ground and being held down, but there was no choke hold being employed. It may well be that the weight of officers holding him down, combined with his own mass and his weakened respiratory system and agitated state, prevented him from drawing air.
Possibly, he would have been better served by cooperation, since once the police have decided you are being taken into custody, You Are Being Taken Into Custody.
Then again, there was no actual hurry to restrain him, and they could have afforded the time to allow him to cool off a bit, aside from the growing crowd of course.
There was no damage to his airway from the initial contact in which there was an arm around his neck.
He was not choked to death.

The poor man died of a heart attack. He was not choked to death. Too bad Matt Bors didn’t stay with the facts on this one.

I didn’t know you did the autopsy on him???

A bit inflammatory Matt. Try to get your facts straight. Although the choke hold was wrong, it was not the cause of death. Lying to make your point in this case – shame on YOU!

About the only way we’ll ever get to know what happens in encounters like this, since police tend to confiscate civilians’ phones for “impeding a police investigation” when they try to record what’s going on.

Careful with that. He’s still a cartoonist. The inflammatory reactionary response may also be a target of his lampoon. Assume nothing.

No doubt he was a smoker himself with COPD and half a dozen fat policemen sitting on him is what killed him. Kind of like that commercial about not being able to breath while an elephant is sitting on you.

There are a lot of potential deadly effects from “choke holds” which is why we were trained to use them with great restraint. At the same time, taking down a guy over 300 pounds isn’t easy either. Cops DO screw up, but not nearly as often as folks who resist arrest, like Rodney King.

Fortunately, today’s average citizen is more adequately socialized and not hobbled by repressive institutions that produce socially inept people who react to authority by assuming a false veneer of quietude and politeness, which we hate so very much.

I believe that the Third Amendment, “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” may be an obstacle to Obama’s plan to house MS13 soldiers throughout the country. Another one of those negative rights that serves the people rather than the government.
