The attack on Pearl Harbor and the attack in San Bernardino are not much alike. Japan was a major military and industrial power; the US and Japan had been competing for years for economic control of the Pacific region. The attack was a major attack on a military base; more than 350 airplanes; and there were coordinated attacks in other areas. The goal of the attack was to take out the US navy in the Pacific, so that the US would not be able to respond to Japanese military moves. And it pretty nearly succeeded. The attack in San Bernardino was terrible, but it was a couple of disturbed people with delusions. ISIS is not a major military or industrial power, and there is no way that it is a serious threat to the US. There should be a response to the San Bernardino attack, and there should be a response to ISIS, but responses should be calibrated to the situation. This was not Pearl Harbor.
