By John Zakour (writer) & Scott Roberts (artist)
Maria is a kid who sees things her own way- and expects the world to see it her own way too! Her friend Joey is more practical. He helps keep her grounded, though that’s as easy as handling a Thanksgiving balloon in a hurricane. Sue is special and she knows it- better than anyone. She’s writing her autobiography now, but she’ll live it later. Bob takes things slower. Ms. Payne is their teacher- she enjoys her job, she truly does. She’d enjoy it even more without the students.

I don’t hate them. I was just no good at them. I suspect that they didn’t like me…

Sorry, the story line is so implausible, even I can’t believe it. Schools generally will close if >50% of the student population is out sick. If there are other students in the same grade, they’ll combine it to one class, and then only if they can’t contact parents or guardians to pick them up. Then there will be art, music, some review, but generally no real teaching.

Again, it’s a joke. Yes, John and I bat these things around sometimes, deciding what crosses the line. But this is within thee parameters of allowability for a gag strip. Exaggeration is funny. It only goes to far if it becomes out and out misinformation.

Question: Has anyone EVER had to use fractions outside of school? I can’t ever remember saying, I just cut a pie in 6/6, and we have 4 kids. Hopw many piece of the pie will be left?"
Happy, happy, happy!!!

I like to putter around in the kitchen, but i don’t have a large family to cook for.
Since recipes in cook books are made for larger servings, i am forced to half or third recipes all the time.
I wish i was better at fractions, because its a struggle at times.

Fractions are often useful in everyday life. For example, I find myself only giving half my attention to my wife when she complains about her workday.

Ms. Payne is so loving this!! She’s getting Maria back for some of those times when Maria asked the craziest of questions. LOL!!
@ Dragon0131 – Take it easy, it’s a comic and it’s a good story line. As Scott said, it’s an exaggeration (like most comics) so that it will be funny. If you want realistic, go read Mary Worth (and even that is not entirely realistic).

Actually we’ve only seen 4 kids in the class so for all we know 1/2 the kids are still there. But yes we know its an exaggeration used for comic effect.

That’s true. We have to assume the class is bigger than just Maria, Joey, Sue and Bob.

Just keep your mouth Maria.

Just curious… did you forget a “shut” in there?

@Redkaycei Repoc
I don’t think so. Comic Minister was no doubt concerned that Maria might lose her mouth…

Just imagine the rest of the school isn’t missing 98% of there classes. Does that help the plausibility index? Otherwise suspend it for the duration.

Any kind of measurements where you have to make exact sections you do though i prefer decimal to fractions.
