I’ve lost all hope that our system of government will work. The politicians only care about getting re-elected. The people who vote for these jerks only care about voting for the guy who promises the best perks, regardless of how they’ll be paid for. Let’s just keep voting free stuff for ourselves and make everybody else pay for it, especially those rich buzzards who don’t deserve what they have anyway. This nation is screwed.
I do belive a majority are going to step up for America and end this stupid infighting. . The country is in real trouble, Americans have rallied every time in the past, I expect the same now. It just had to get bad enough to be scary first.
Actually, sometimes it feels like we were put here as some type of cosmic science experiment: Put a bunch of people on a planet they can’t escape from, make them different colors with slightly different features, give each a different language so they can’t easily communicate, give some countries more natural resources than others so that some prosper and others are impoverished, then stand back and see if they will come together in love, sharing abundance and if they can have the noble and gracious goal of helping each other become self-actualized. . Well, even the people in one nation cannot agree or politely disagree. We’re doomed.
Of course all we have to do is just agree to share everything and there will be enough for everyone to have a decent life. But since we were created from selfish apes to be slaves there is little hope we will cooperate. This is the prison planet in the back waters of the Milky Way where all the poisoned souls are placed to work out their karma. Of course we all agreed to come him here before we were born. This planet is the school of hard knocks. Or so some of those New Age stories go…
Don’t need to blame Obama, the man is not a leader. His absents on the workings of trying to make some sort of deal or even a compromise says more then enough about his failure. He had to send Biden out to do his bidding and Bohner will no longer speak to him one on one but go back to how the speaker of the house has traditionally done it. So I for one am happy Obama did not get everything he wanted but the failure should be all his!
A lot of those problems are because “W” kicked Afghanistan and Iraq “down the road”, and maintained tax breaks, but no, it wasn’t just his fault, Congress (not Obama who couldn’t sustain a veto, even IF the Dems all supported him) must share the blame, Republicans, "blue dogs’, and those Democrats unwilling to stand up for the nation.
BTW, Tigger, this plan DOES maintain those cuts in payroll taxes for the middle class, but slightly, at just 4% increase, ask just a tad more from those with wealth, raised again to protect many of the “guilty”.
Now as to cuts folks, let’s start with 20-30% from defense contracting, eliminating insurance fraud in Medicare, negotiating drug prices for Medicare as well, keeping that 1% increase in Social Security tax, cutting all corporate tax breaks for corporations sending jobs overseas, reducing agriculture subsidies to corporates, eliminating all subsidies for tobacco growers, and charging “fair market value” for ALL taxpayer owned natural resources, like grazing, oil and gas, timber, and hard rock minerals(eliminate the 1866 and 1872 Mining Acts).
Mix a snifter of Bill Mauldin, a dash of Jeff McNelly and a very large dollop of common sense, and you begin to get an idea of Lisa Benson’s considerable talent.
