    I want to thank everyone who submitted to the contest.Many of you are very, very funny.

    Since almost no one “voted” for their favorite gag, I ended up picking the winner myself. And I found this gag by Pogoreader laugh-out loud funny.

    Pogoreader, to receive your prize, please contact me via my website!!

    In fact, I found so many of the gags funny that I put together some of my favorites here.

    Well, I didn’t INTEND to sleep, but I was so shagged out I couldn’t
    help it.

    Hehe, people have a lot of fantasy! Sleeping with somebody “by accident” is very funny. I also liked the one “I will never kiss those feet again”. ;o)

    I particularly liked the “safe word” gag.

    I’m still worried about the African Snail.

    It’s not likely that it has any problems now after being subjected to 70 or 80lbs on its shell.
    .
    Speaking of snails, one of funnier things that happened when I was working in endangered species work was the discovery of a snail living along the Shasta river in large numbers in the rocks. The ecos had claimed it only lived in old growth, and instead they were living in some harsh conditions that we wouldn’t have expected them to. No substitute for doing studies, that much is certain.
    .
    Most of our native snails west of the Cascades are about 1"(2.4cm) across at the shell. East of the Cascades most I’ve seen are about 2 to 3mm. Slugs on the other hand, can be anywhere from 6" to 12" long west of the cascades (they call the huge yellow ones Banana Slugs) and usually less than an inch on the east side.

    By the way, I’m delighted to say I’ve heard from Pogoreader and I’ve got an address so I can send PR the prizes.

    Quick question for readers. We had a huge number of contest submissions (and many of them were brilliant.) But there’s been very little response here to the contest results.

    Right now, I’m considering whether to have future Couple-Up contests just once a year. Twice a year. Or even four times a year.

    What would you like to see?

    Congrats Pogoreader! Nice job. I agree with your selection, John. Really, you should pick the winner since you are too lazy to write your own punchline. ;-) Just kidding!

    @John Lustig

    Twice a year would probably be sufficient. I’m not sure I have brain power enough for more than that. Thanks for a great cartoon idea.

    Thanks for acknowledging my sick sense of humor. A little hair pulling, but I figured out how to email you. I prefer to hide behind my pen-name of Pogoreader. Did you know Walt Kelly, who wrote that comic, also started with Disney?

    @Pogoreader

    I know some (but not all) of Kelly’s Disney work very well—-particularly his covers of Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories. I love those covers. In fact, I even prefer them to those done by the great Carl Barks.

    Congrats, again on a great winning caption, Pogoreader!

    2-3 times per year. I’m amazed at how clever the responses are. Heck puct up the cartoon and turn it into " priceless". Never mind.

    John, I missed this one (just too busy at work) but had fun with the last one and would love there to be more. I could easily go with 3 a year. Two would be okay, too, but that extra helps those of us who miss one.
