If you’re in Portland, OR this weekend, then I hope you can attend tthe Rose City Comic Con. I’ll be there in booth 621. And I’ll also be on the Digital Revolution panel on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Be sure to tell people to take out an insurance policy. While Portland doesn’t have the 1000+ homicides a year like they did in the early 1990s during pot legalization, Portland is anything but safe. (I lived in a borough next to Rose City, the Hollywood District, during the druggie days. Scary stuff.) Max has been a hotbed of criminal activity in the last few years, to the point of once-thriving neighborhoods along the east-west Max line going into decline. Rockwood, North Portland, Albina, Hollywood, and Lloyd Center are places to stay away from.
    .
There are several areas where white people get beaten up or killed in hate crimes. It’s not Chicago, but it’s not far from it.
    .
I have to go up periodically to the medical school, which isn’t a bad area, but the city itself is in a major decline. Some 500,000 industrial and commercial jobs went from 1995 to 2005. Detroit of Oregon, here we come…

Judging from the second face, perhaps the caption should have been “Good News! YOUR summer romance has become my fall fling.”

That pretty much sums up most of the industrial-based cities in America today. I guess selling each other cell phones and coffee ain’t gonna cut it. I am really glad I’m approaching 60 and still have a defined benefits retirement plan. This century is gonna suck.

StatsCan,s (Statistics Canada) figures state that the number of homicides for the entire country as:

    2007……………594
    2008……………611
    2009……………610
    2010……………554
    2011……………598

Even at that, we’re still fourth in homicides per 100,000 people with a lower rate than only the U.S., Spain, and the entire European Union.

No… are you telling us that we Canadians can be nasty and impolite at times? You can’t be serious!

She noticed it’s the fall equinox? Perhaps he’s not as interesting or as “accomplished” as he thought.

The most homicides in one year in Portland was 178 in 1986, according to Oregon Law Enforcement Agency Uniform Crime Reports 1980 to 2005. Not anywhere near 1000+. Last year (2012) the number was 92.
