So John, did you coordinate this with Jef Mallett over at Frazz? He also has a discussion of Labor Pains.

If it was as bad as some women claim it is then they’d never have a second kid or would go caesarian. I’ve no doubt that it’s difficult but the jokes about it get stale after the 100th time one has heard them.
    .
The only difference I’ve seen in the way men and women act with physical pain is that most men don’t say anything about it after the initial injury or onset. I’m not sure how healthy that is but stoicism is ingrained in the culture. (I should talk, right, being partly disabled and pain is not a stranger, but I HAD to learn to ignore it.)

Looks like he’s swimming towards a shark rather than away from one, no?

One time after a motorcycle mishap, I waited a week to see if the swelling would go down on it’s own- it didn’t. When I went to see the doc, she said: You’ve been walking around for a week with a dislocated shoulder and two broken ribs- what have you been taking for the pain? I said nothing, pain killers don’t fix anything. Like my football coach used to say: GET UP AND WALK IT OFF!!!!

My mother was 32 hours beat that.
She never let me forget that fact and that I owed it to her that she worked so hard for me.
    I agree with bawana
After my hernia surgery….12 inches of scar right lower….the doc wanted to give me pain killers. I took the prescription but never filled it. Pain is fleeting. The mind can control pain.
The Bene Geserit test in Dune is just that. Like she said the problem is controlling Crisis.
But seriously get that shoulder reset it will help. A baseball under the arm pit works fine. Broken ribs heal. Just try not to cough or laugh hard. (Same thing with a hernia.)
    Have a good day folks.
I always thought Herc was alternative lifestyle…..you know he runs around with all those scantly clad men doing manly things.

obviously, you haven’t been in pain long enough. There is nothing worse than chronic pain that never stops. You even get to thinking that death would be preferable. Even with all the misuse of pain killing medicine, it is a godsend. I just can not imagine having a limb removed on the battlefield. No wonder there was so much drug addiction after the “war of northern aggression”.
