Sesame Street is such a major merchandising machine that it can sustain its own operations without federal assistance; even the people behind the show admit this, and would rather that people not keep dragging the show into this.

Destroy PBS and build up our already overpriced military, thats what will happen when the Mitt hits the fan.
masterskrain said, 8 months ago
And what so many don’t seem to know is the fact that the amount of money PBS gets from the Government annually would not go very far in the Military budget. It might buy 1/3 of a Navy Destroyer. That’s ALL!

Hmmm…I just read the Constitution, and there isn’t anything there on muppets and televised mindrot for rugrats. However, there WAS something there about “defense.”
Besides, does anyone seriously believe that Sesame Street is going to die if it isn’t subsidized by the government? It is a HUGE money-making franchise, and it will get picked up by a profitable network should PBS go away.

Congress gave PBS about $450 million this year. If that’s Mitt Romney’s big answer on how to fix a trillion dollar deficit, I don’t think he deserves to be taken seriously.
In the meantime, Romney promises to increase our military spending by trillions, despite the fact that we are outspending China by 7 to 1, and Russia by about 14 to 1.
A wise President would be looking to our allies in Asia to help pay the costs of containing China.

I thought you had already reached your bottom but I was wrong again.
Gresch said, 8 months ago
No… only if we do not have to borrow the money from China… Let Sesame Street go commercial and pay for itself.. it certainly has all of the creative forces to be major competition from Disney or other "entertainment’ focused organizations.

@Radish
So why does PBS need tax payers money?
eclodyrag said, 8 months ago
@Uncle Joe
Hey Wake the F&%$# up. A penny here and and penny there and suddenly $16 trillion debt to China. Maybe Sesame Street could do shows about how the little kids are going to have to be the ones to pay back this enormous bill “they” owe.

Falwell’s “Liberty University” received far (many times more) from the Office of Faith Based Initiatives, than public broadcasting. By far the most support comes from private contributors and subscribers for Public Broadcasting. Mitt hates it because it’s actually unbiased.

If that was the main thing Lalo learned from the debate then maybe we need Sesame Street For Adults.
Stan King said, 8 months ago
Did he actually mean to say “Fired” instead of “Fried” or it just an unfunny pun?
Bruce4671 said, 8 months ago
@dtroutma
Did you here in the narrative that Romney gave that he would be looking to downsize “departments” maybe combine some eliminate others? Perhaps this Office of Faith Based initiatives should go away as well. Seems to be a conflict of interest for the government to me.
And you can take your “unbiased” assessment of PBS and tuck it into your tin foil hat.
