“When taken individually, people who run corporations are like you and me. They are not that greedy, care about the environment and human rights. But most of them will never see what’s going on in their factories.”
I disagree. Those you describe just don’t care to learn. If senior management cared about the environment and human rights and such, it would show in their corporate policy.
The senior management at my company does care and it shows in their policies. Even more than that, they put their money where their mouth is. Corporate recently financed a wind turbine for my facility, which is in the process of being erected. Several other facilities have had roof top solar installed. All facilities have an environmental committee (I’m on one such committee) devoted and funded to reduce that facility’s environmental impact. Back when the economy was clearly in the toilet and corporate revenue was taking a hit, it was management that had to give up any bonuses/raises, thus allowing the rank and file to obtain raises, even if at a reduced rate. Of course, the company I work for is headquartered in the UK.
