    ZING! It would be nice if Ryan actually followed Catholic doctrine in his budget, instead of Ayn Rand’s viciously self-absorbed approach.

    Enlightenment is a word that is not commonly used in the Catholic religion,

    I’m continually surprised by how few self professed “conservative Christians” follow the actual teachings of Christ. He would be appalled what what has been done in his name.

    We are unemployment, 50 million on food stamps, insured student loans, Social Security, Medicare and Obama Care and the Democrats say the right are the ones attacking the middle class.

    Well, you know what vampires like Eddie Munster there think of Crosses…
    (I know…little Eddie was a werewolf, but you get the idea…)

    Ryan needs to recall the social supports, he received as a young man. What a hypocrite! He wants to bury Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. He attended an Ohio public university and paid out-of-state tuition using Social Security survivor benefits, after his father died.

    I’m constantly surprised that people think Jesus had an actual message of peace and love and that he set a standard that others should follow. His actual message was “believe in me or you’re going to hell”.

    @Orthodox Catholic

    Miracles do happen! (And there we agree twice, I think.)
    I do disagree, however, that people “using the system” are any real threat. When serious investigations have taken place to find “welfare cheats,” they come up with absolutely trivial numbers. Connecticut did an investigation (I’ve tried to find the source, haven’t been able to as of yet) and spent more money on the investigation than was being used by the cheats. It is a tiny, tiny percentage — less than 1%, if I remember correctly.
    The “welfare cheat” meme, which I think Reagan pushed first, is a myth propagated to justify killing off ALL welfare.
    Having said that, I agree that good job-training welfare programs and the like are a good idea; there were a few in Obama’s job bill that got killed by the GOP.

    The Ryan budget does not cut spending. We’d still spend more money, we just wouldn’t spend as much is all.

    Meanwhile, Obama and Democrats hurt the poor by making employment more costly so there’s fewer jobs.

    In what way does “not spending as much” not equal “cut spending?”

    Walmart made $15.7 billion last year. For a meager 2% of that amount Walmart could make all of their employees full time, give them a raise to $12 an hour and provide them with full medical/dental/life insurance. The same applies to every mayor employer in America. Obama has done nothing to inhibit job growth but the Republicans have done everything in their power to make sure these “big” employers don’t have to live up to their responsibility to create more jobs.
